Yearly Challenges

Challenge 2019: Becoming
Our monthly challenge for 2019 is to take our faith beyond casually following Jesus, beyond good deeds, just going to church, and knowing about Jesus to personally knowing Him in such a way that we become like Him and impact the lives of those around us. Our challenge is to better follow Jesus in becoming His disciples.
Each month we’ll look at how we can better follow Jesus and make disciples who in turn make disciples.

Challenge 2018: Embracing the Uncomfortable
There are aspects of our relationship with God that are difficult to reconcile, aspects of our relationships with other believers that are difficult to cultivate so we can live, grow and serve together and aspects of our relationship with our world that take courage and faith to live out proclaiming hope and life in Jesus alone. However, as we embrace the uncomfortable, we’ll find Jesus impacting our lives and our world through Him.
This year our challenge is to Embrace the Uncomfortable, learning to grasp those difficult aspects of following Jesus with courage and passion.

Challenge 2017: Here We Grow
In this year ahead we are being challenged to experience growth in our relationship with Jesus. We grow best when we can grow together in community. The apostle Paul note in Ephesians 3 that growth is not a matter of doing more, but trusting more. To this end we’re seeking to trust Jesus in our lives more fully as we grow deep, high, wide and long. As we learn to trust Jesus with more and more areas of ourselves and our lives, we will experience real growth through Him.

Challenge 2016: Here We Stand
n this year, we’re being challenged to look at life and the real issues facing our world today through the lens of God’s Word. Psalm 119:105 says that God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, it shows us where we stands and directs us how to follow. One Sunday per month we’ll examine what the Bible has to say about a particular issue so we not only see it from God’s perspective, but also live like Jesus in our world today.

Challenge 2015: LiveJoy
In this year, we’re being challenged to not only know who we are in Jesus, but see that make a difference in real life. This includes our personal life, and also life together as a Joy family. Throughout the year we’ll be exploring and putting into action our identity in Jesus. James says that we are to not just be hearers of the word but also doers of the word.

Challenge 2014: The Year of the Pro
Our challenge for this year is to be agents of God’s grace in being positive, proactive and encouraging to each other and as a church.
This theme comes from Ephesians 4. In fact the verse below is one we are encouraging all to memorize:
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Challenge 2013: 2BE
This year we’re being challenged to understanding our identity in Jesus. You see, who we are drives what we are rather than what we do driving who we are. When we understand who we are in Jesus, He begins to change us from the inside out.

Challenge 2012: It's Personal
As we look forward, 2012 holds many exciting opportunities to grow in God’s grace and make a difference in the communities around us.
Our growth, trust in Jesus and impact as a church family is directly proportional to what Jesus is doing in and through us as individuals. In this message, we face the challenge to take our individual relationship with Jesus personally. In doing so we will discover not only individual growth, but also as a church family.

Challenge 2011: iRisk
As we enter 2011, the question is asked, “What does God have for us as individuals and as a church family?” In this challenging 4-part series, we answer that question with “iRisk: Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone.”
Building on the call of Jesus found in Matthew 22:37-39 (to love God and others), we will discover how we can step out of our comfort zone and into authentic, loving relationships with God and those around us. This theme will serve as a challenge for us as individuals and as a church family as we embark on our mission to become Real People, growing in Real Faith, impacting Real Life through God’s Grace.
